Calling volunteers to support pop-up port gallery
October 11, 2017
ABP’s Port of Hull is searching for volunteers to help run an exciting pop-up gallery that will celebrate the city’s rich maritime heritage.
The leading port operator and The History Troupe have joined forces to host The ABP Pump House Gallery, and with the volunteers help, it hopes to be open to the public from Friday 3rd November to Sunday, 10th December (Fridays to Sundays only).
Located in the beautifully restored Grade-II listed building, it will showcase stunning photographs of the Port of Hull, host theatrical performances and launch a digital archive to ensure the story lives on for all to see.
Chris Green, port manager for Hull and Goole, said: “We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to spare a couple of hours of their time to volunteer. Whether they are passionate about the port or have an interest in local history we’d love to hear from them.
“Volunteers are pivotal in this exciting project as we wouldn’t be able to open the gallery without their help. The volunteers will ensure that these long-lost images and fascinating stories are brought to life as they’re unveiled to the public.
“We’re sure many of the images will evoke a variety of emotions and we hope that they will bring back memories including recognising familiar faces.”
There are plenty of ways volunteers can help out, such as by welcoming visitors, checking tickets for performances, answering visitor’s queries and more.
The ABP Pump House Gallery is located just off Hedon Road and, with volunteers’ help, is hoped to be open Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 5pm and Sundays 10am to 3pm.
